With site limits on FPS, aren't some of these guns simply about 'having the right gun for the right impression,' than offering any real advantage in game from the point of view of greater ranges, rate of fire or accuracy?

Actually I can't say I notice if a german has a VSR, Mosin or Garand, Mp44 or Thompson while we're playing, but it looks nice in pics if you have the right rifle.
I meant it more from the perspective of squad support weapons, really. They hardly seem to offer any tangible benefit over your average SMG or rifle in game.
I agree though, it's the reason I want to shell out £300 for a Kar98, as using a Garand for FJ or Heer is utter blasphemy. 
with regards to support weapons , their advantage comes from their higher ammo limit.
i think the prospect of a gewehr 43 is remote , it was very limited production, even more so than the stg 44 so it's going to be hard to get it made by even a smaller manufacturer , it is a pity much like a webley pistol's for us brit's.
